Deaf President Now Unit: Lesson Two - The Deaf Perspective
Description In this lesson students will review what they learned about Deaf culture in order to take on the identity/perspective of a deaf community member. Students will then create a Glog or Padlet that demonstrates their perspective of DPN, as that deaf community member. The identity/perspective options that students can take on are: D/deaf person, hard-of-hearing person, teacher, sibling or parent of a deaf student at Gallaudet, interpreter, etc. If you have a different idea of a perspective you would like to take, please email me for approval: [email protected]. Objective Students will be able to create a Glog that demonstrates the cultural perspective of DPN by analyzing DPN from the cultural perspective of a deaf community member. Materials Access to the internet Access to the previous lesson in this unit Access to Glogster or Padlet Learning Activities Students will first choose an identity from the Deaf/ASL community. Then they will decide their stand on DPN as it relates to their chosen identity. They will use the information they learned in the previous lesson to search the internet for artifacts that represent their stance on DPN. Student will then create a Glog or Padlet that complies artifacts demonstrating their cultural views and explanations as to how each artifact/cultural view contributes to their opinion of DPN. |
